ZERi Africa is a non-profit company that promotes quality education for South African learners regardless of their economic situation. ZERi Africa aims to deliver an excellent educational solution that infuse Africanism to produce learners who are confident and equipped to pursue any opportunity, who are proud of their African heritage and its traditions, who know they leave in a global space, and who are determined to do well and contribute to their society.
We truly believe that every African child, regardless of economic status, can succeed if they have access to an excellent education experience.
We teach every learner:
• To think critically
• To write and speak persuasively
• To solve problems and
• To work collaboratively with others
We provide our learners with tools to recognize their common humanity with people whose experiences and perspectives differ from their own. This means as we empower children to speak their truth to give voice to those their voice traditionally is silenced; children must also embrace the value of empathy and humanity to be able to acknowledge the humanity of those they disagree with or those they don’t understand. This means being able to stay in difficult conversations with those whose views differ from their own, to speak for themselves while learning also to hear the other side.
This can only be achieved if learners are supported by competent and well-trained teachers, supportive parents and a caring community.
Therefore, we work in collaboration with educators, parents and the community to achieve our mission to surround learners with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and be successful.
Our Model, or continuum of services, provides children and families with a seamless series of free, coordinated, best-practice programs. We focus on the needs of children at every developmental stage with specific programs addressing pre-natal care, infants, early childhood development, primary school, high school, youth out of school, and tertiary support.
Academic excellence is a principal goal of our model, but high-quality Community Learning Spaces are only one of the means we use to achieve it. These provide communities with nurturing stable families, supporting youth development, improving health through fitness and nutrition, and cultivating engaged and involved adults and community stakeholders.
Overall, we seek to:
(1) Maximize educational achievements for underserved children.
(2) Ensure that each of the programs in the pipeline is strong and incorporates best practices.
(3) Foster strong links across programs to smooth transitions and guarantee that programs are pedagogically continuous.
(4) Stay community-based and responsive to local community needs; and
(5) Provide relevant data to program staff so that they can improve services, and to policymakers and decision-makers so that they can get the best return on their investments.
Children can enter the continuum at any age, and they will be supported with high-quality programs. We offer aggressive outreach efforts and multiple entrance points because we want families to easily access our programmes whenever they can do so. Once they have entered, we do not want them to leave.
